Press Release
PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release Contact: Christine Delaney 517-278-6029 Date: June 21, 2010 COLDWATER – Tibbits Summer Theatre presents a special collection of songs from the past 25 years on the “Great White Way” as it opens its 47th season with “On Broadway: A Modern Songbook” on Thursday, June 24. The musical revue features songs from a range of Broadway shows: long running favorites like “Phantom of the Opera,” “Les Miserables” and “Cats”; hot new phenomenons attracting young audiences like “Wicked,” “Hairspray,” and “Rent”; quirky off the wall shows like “The Producers,” “Young Frankenstein” and “Spamalot”; and little known gems like “Chess,” “Curtains” and “Next to Normal.” The revue style suits Tibbits, according to Tibbits Artistic Director Charles Burr. “When we survey our audience, some of the most requested productions are the recent Broadway shows, which Tibbits is unable to produce.” Among the reasons Burr states are extended tours which prevent other theatres from producing them, huge sets like the helicopter for “Miss Saigon” or titles so new they are still not recognized. Tibbits may not be able to do the full show, Burr adds, “but we can perform the music and we can do it well.” In addition to a great selection of songs compiled by Burr and Trinity Bird, the shows director, there’s a talented cast featuring Brian Sage (Michigan), Tiffany Wiesend (New York/formerly Michigan), Ryan McDonald (New York), all returnees from last summer, as well as Dick Baker (New York), Amy Lamberti (Connecticut) and Katie Quigley (New York). Choreography is by Alison Gritz (New York) also returning from last summer. Tibbits Summer Theatre’s 2010 season is presented with support from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. “On Broadway: A Modern Songbook” promises to give audiences a taste of Broadway’s best, and a full evening of entertainment. The show runs from June 24 through June 26 and June 30 through July 3. Evening performances are at 8 pm with 2 pm matinees on June 24 and 30. Tickets prices are $26 to $12 and available at www.Tibbits.org, or by calling or visiting the box office 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and 9 am to noon on Saturday.
