Press Release
Cloris Leachman:"A One Woman Show"Date: 3/29/11COLDWATER, MI— The funny, unique, multi-talented Cloris Leachman comes to the Tibbits Opera House, March 29 to share moments in her professional and personal career of nearly eight decades in “Cloris: A One Woman Show.”
Leachman, a star of film, stage, and television enjoys new popularity with her appearance on “Dancing With the Stars” and with the Fox hit, “Raising Hope.” In “Cloris: A One-Woman Show,” Leachman reflects on her life through stories, song and film clips in a performance both zany and poignant.
Since her first role on film when she was seven, Leachman has created characters both deep and diverse winning an Oscar and seven Emmys. She created the zany, self-centered character, Phyllis on The Mary Tyler Moore Show; the awesomely prejudiced grandmother Ida, in Malcolm in the Middle; the hilarious Frau Blucher in “Young Frankenstein” and her conically breasted Nurse Diesel in “High Anxiety.”
On the other end of the spectrum she demonstrated gracious fluidity with Shakespeare's lines when she played opposite Katharine Hepburn on Broadway in “As You Like It.” She was a soaring success on Broadway has Nellie Forbush in “South Pacific.” And she gave a superb dramatic Oscar-winning performance as Ruth Popper, the emotionally barren woman in “The Last Picture Show.”
Her already noteworthy career also includes a recently published autobiography and a music album where she sings the classics. She also has a new MTV reality show schedule to air this spring.
In her show Leachman reflects on her life which includes dining with presidents and prime ministers, working with the great talents of the entertainment industry, giving birth to five children, losing one of her sons to drugs, becoming a grandmother and a great grandmother. As deep as Leachman herself, her show is both moving and funny and not to be missed.
The actress will appear at a private reception after the concert to meet and greet audience members. A limited number of tickets for the reception are available for $100 which includes admission to the concert.
Ticket prices for the 7pm, March 29, 2011 event are $50-$25. They are available on line at www.Tibbits.org or at Tibbits administrative offices, 93 W. Chicago St., Coldwater. For more information call Tibbits at 517-289-6029. The opera house is located at 14 S. Hanchett St., Coldwater, MI.
