Kids art Exhibit

COLDWATER, MI—The very first “Kidz’ Art Rocks!” exhibition is ready to enthrall and entertain visitors. But that is not it’s only purpose.

              The “Kidz ‘ Art Rocks!” project is an opportunity for the community to support students and their budding efforts to become artists in their own medium. The community is invited to attend the celebration, peruse the artwork and select a piece to lease. Each framed artwork is available for lease for one year for $80 with proceeds going to Tibbits.

Sixteen budding artists from Branch County have their artwork on display for the free exhibit which is from 1 to 3 pm, Sunday, May 16, 2010, at the Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater.

              The artists are: Sophia Adams, Alexandra Baker, Laura Boger, Amy Castor, Autumn Fast, Angel Gamon, Rafael Herrera, Maria Hostetler, Cameron Lindsley, Cheyenne Mosby, Shane O’Grady, Blaine Robinson, Morgan Rose, Maggie Smith, Bransom Turley and Korbin Young.

              This celebration of student art was the brainchild of the Tibbits Boosters Arts committee. That committee consists of: Diane Riegel, Ruth Scheidler, Cristy Nagle, Sue Adams, Ron Grossheim, Laura Grossheim, Jan Storrs and Charlene Rucker.

The committee sent out letters to area school art teachers defining the project. Teachers introduced the project to the students. Interested students then submitted a piece of art to their teachers who then selected one piece from each school for the exhibition.

Attendees are asked to use the new addition theatre doors when attending the reception. They are located to the south of the main theatre doors.

Branch County schools represented are: Quincy Middle and High Schools, Coldwater Middle and High Schools, St. Mary Assumption, and Union City Middle and Elementary schools. Elementary schools include: Jefferson, Lakeland, Lincoln, Chicago Street School, Jennings, Max Larsen, Anderson, and Ryan.

The “Kidz Art Rocks!” exhibit is sponsored by the Tibbits Boosters which is a group of 151 members who support the opera house in many ways. To join the Boosters call the Tibbits at 517-278-6029. Membership is only $10 annually.

“Kidz Art Rocks!” is only one way to experience and enjoy youth art in Branch County. The Community Health Center of Branch sponsors Hospital Enchancement Program (HEP). It is in its15th year showcasing youth’s artwork at the health center. For information about HEP call 279-5282.
