Paintin the Fence auditions

COLDWATER, MI—

       Hey kids, grab a friend and join in the fun by auditioning for the Tibbits Young Audiences (TYA) musical, “Paintin’ the Fence,” a Mark Twain classic.

        Auditions are scheduled for 4 pm to 6 pm, Friday, Jan. 7 and from 10 am to noon on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011 at the Tibbits Opera House. Only students in grades 4 through 8 are eligible to audition for the TYA musical.

        Director Julia Littley said auditioning students are expected to sing a song and read from the script. Please bring a nonreturnable current photo of auditioneer.

         “Plays are a great way to learn new skills, gain confidence, meet new friends, and have lots of fun all at the same time,” Littley said. “If you've always wanted to be on stage, now is a great time to get started.”

         “Paintin’ the Fence” recounts the classic Mark Twain tale of Tom Sawyer and all his buddies like Becky Thatcher and Huck Finn, as he tries to trick friends into doing his work for him. His misadventures don’t stop there either as theatre patrons will enjoy watching as Tom gets himself in and out of escapades especially with Injun Joe.

          Show dates are Thursday, March 26 and Friday, March 27 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 27 at 2 pm. There is no Saturday performance.

            This production is presented by Tibbits Young Audiences and sponsored by the Coldwater Kiwanis. The musical was written by Dave Barton and Matt Bond.

           TYA presents plays for children twice yearly, a non-musical in the fall by third through eighth graders and a musical in the spring by fourth through eighth graders at Tibbits. TYA provides students this unique introduction to the world of theatre by performing in plays.
