Pocorn 2010Date: 5.18.2010COLDWATER, MI—Popcorn Theatre 2010 has an exciting line up of impressive shows and imposing characters this summer which include Goldilocks, magicians, an emperor in his underwear, pigs, and a little girl in a red cape. “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” opens the 2010 season on June 18 and runs on the 19, 25 and 26. It is the classic story with a twist when Goldilocks stumbles on the Bear home and causes comic mayhem. In this adaptation, ballet is used to help tell the beloved children’s tale which was written by Charles Burr and Bobb James. Tibbits would like to say thank you to the Donay family for sponsoring this show in loving memory of Macy and Sydney Donay by their sister, Kaia Brooke Donay. The second Popcorn offering is “The Emperor’s New Clothes” written by Kathryn Schultz Miller. Lots of fun is in store when Peter, the mischievous tailor, comes up with his sure-fire, get rich quick scheme to embarrass the vain emperor and make off with a basket of gold. The play is scheduled to run July 2, 3, 9 and 10. Tibbits thanks Allegis Credit Union for sponsoring this Popcorn Theatre production. “Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs” has been woven into one unusual story which allows for a great participation theatre experience for the Popcorn audience. Written by Moses Goldberg, the audience helps the three pigs build their homes and aides Little Red to escape the clutches of a very bad, but very funny wolf. Tibbits gratefully acknowledges the sponsorship of Great Lakes Chiropractic. The play runs on July 16, 17, 23 and 24. Once again, Popcorn Theatre will close its summer season in collaboration with the Colon Magic Show and present the “Abracadabra Popcorn Magic Show.” It is generously sponsored by the Coldwater Exchange Club. This year five magicians are showcased each day of the Abracadabra shows. They are: July 30 – Rick Fisher; July 31 – Christian Hill; August 6 – Justin Holbrook; and August 7 – Alan Kazam and Rodney Palmer. Popcorn Theatre is a wonderful opportunity for children to experience theatre “just for them.” Children are allowed an opportunity to meet the actors following each performance, have a photo taken with them and seek autographs. To make the experience even more enjoyable, free popcorn and juice is distributed to everyone at intermission. Where else can you find so much fun in one place in place! Popcorn Theatre is also made possible through the generosity of Dr. Jon and Seibra Herbener. Juice is provided by McDonald’s of Branch and Hillsdale counties with popcorn provided by Capri Drive In.
