Tibbits Summer SeasonDate:1/12/11COLDWATER, MI— It is difficult to imagine warm weather when it is 6 degrees outside and snow is creating white-out conditions but Tibbits Summer Theatre is creating its own white-hot conditions with its sizzling 2011 summer season line up. Tony nominated plays, a farce and a revue make up the Tibbits professional summer season lineup which includes adult entertainment along with wholesome family fun. “On Broadway Too: An Irving Berlin Songbook” continues a trend started last year with a fun revue that features his music as one of America’s great stage, screen and popular music composers. Audience members eager to here Berlin classics like, “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” and “Easter Parade” to name just a few, should plan on getting tickets early so they won’t miss any of the toe-tapping, sing along fun. The revue is scheduled for June 23 through July 2, 2011. This revue is adapted by Tibbits Artistic Director Charles Burr and Trinity Bird, director for the revue. A play which displays heart, self discovery and self worth when out-of-work steel workers pull together a male strip act is the revealing plot of the musical comedy “The Full Monty.” Songs like “It’s A Woman’s World” and “Michael Jordan’s Ball” builds the momentum towards the musical’s final climatic song, “Let it Go” as audiences have a tendency to start clapping and yelling, urging the performers to the finale. Written by David Yazbeck and Terrence McNally, it was nominated for 10 Tonys and 12 Drama Desk awards, winning for Outstanding Musical. (There are adult themes, language and nudity in this production). It is scheduled for July 7 through the 16. Last year’s farce “Run for Your Wife” by Ray Cooney was so popular with audiences Burr selected another play by the same playwright, “Out of Order.” \ This comedy of marital mix-up gives parliamentary procedure a whole new meaning as a conservative government junior minister plans an evening in a London hotel with one of the opposition's typists. A conniving waiter, suspicious hotel manager, alert private detective, angry wife, furious husband, bungling secretary, unconscious nurse and a dead body ensure the evening will not go as planned. “Out of Order” will run from July 21 through the 30th. (There are adult themes in this production.) “Working” is a timely musical about real life from the bestseller book of real life interviews by Studs Terkel with a score featuring Stephen Schwartz (of “Godspell” and “Wicked” fame), James Taylor and others. The hopes, dreams, joys and concerns of the average working American inspire this unique, eye-opening musical. A series of portraits of “common” men and women weave together to create a timely landscape of workers from the assembly line to the grocery store, from teachers and salesmen to firemen and housewives as audience members relate to the performers heart breaking and heart warming trials, tribulations and triumphs. Tibbits graciously thanks Vandervoort, Christ & Fisher, for their generous sponsorship of “Working,” scheduled for Aug. 4 through 13. Individuals, businesses or industry who would like to sponsor a main stage show may call the Tibbits office for information, 517-278-6029 and ask for Executive Director Christine Delaney. Popcorn Theatre will return again at 10 am each Friday and Saturday starting June 17 and running through August 6. Popcorn Theatre shows will be announced soon.
