Date: 6.16.10

COLDWATER, MI—

The 2010 Tibbits Summer Theatre season continues July 8, 2010 with the Tony-award winning musical “Crazy for You,”  a high energy, screw-ball comedy featuring mistaken identity, plot twists, fabulous dance numbers and Gershwin music.

The 1992 award winning “Crazy for You” features songs and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin, based on their 1930s production “Girl Crazy.”  “I Got Rhythm,” Embraceable You,” and “Someone To Watch Over Me” are just a few of the amazing tunes patrons can expect to hear. I Can't Be Bothered Now, Shall We Dance, Bidin' My Time, I Got Rhythm, Naughty Baby, They Can't Take That Away from Me, But Not for Me, Nice Work if You Can Get It, Embraceable You and Someone to Watch Over Me.

The story revolves around Bobby Child, played by Timothy Fuchs (New York), who dreams of dancing on Broadway despite protests from his mother, played by Gloria Logan (Michigan), and his fiancée, played by               Tiffany Wiesend (New York). Bobby flees to Deadrock, Nevada where he falls in love with Polly Baker, played by Alison Gritz (New York). He helps her save her theatre by putting on a show. In the process he uses his New York connections and also impersonates Bela Zanger the great New York producer. Everything is fine until the real Zanger shows up, played by Brian P Sage (Michigan).

The production also features Greg Pragel (New York), Orion Silvertree (Illinois), Paul Kerr (Kentucky), Kierstein Vorheis (Kentucky), Ryan McDonald (New York), Jared Wietbrock (Georgia), Kiersten Elliot (Michigan), Aisling Halpin, Amy Lamberti, Katie Quigley, Douglas Robbins, Dick Baker (all from New York) and Lizzy Palmer (California).  Local attorney J.R. Colbeck also joins the cast along with Chelsea Norris, Dane Earl, Jonah Houtz and Jacob Covert. The show is directed and choreographed by Kevin Halpin (New York).

This new Gershwin musical features a book by Ken Ludwig, well known for his comedy writing with other great hits like “Leading Ladies” and “Lend Me a Tenor,” both performed in previous summers at Tibbits. The story follows the main character who dreams of dancing on Broadway, despite protests from his mother and wealthy fiancée. Don’t miss this fun musical.
