Press Release
pines senior respite services art exhibit at tibbits11/19/07COLDWATER, MI—Exhibiting artwork done by participants of the Pines Senior Respite Services has become an annual feature at Tibbits each November and December. The exhibit, open to the public during any open hours at the theater, is now in place. This show includes a wide variety of mediums and happy expressions. In addition each person’s artwork is accompanied by a short biography of the artist.
Pines Senior Respite Services, under the direction of Program Director Julie Hurley, is an adult day program designed to provide relief for caretakers of those afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease and related conditions. The program functions as an adult day program for people with memory loss while providing a safe, secure setting in a relaxed environment.
Each year the exhibit expands and adds new features; this year “Old Time Christmas Music,” CDs recorded by participants of the program, are on sale. The CDs have been selling rapidly, but the artwork alone is worth a visit to the theater. Each piece is framed, and many of this year’s projects have taken weeks of work for some of the clients. There are no two days alike for Pines participants, and each day recently brought new achievements as the artworks progressed.
“The respite program provides opportunities for socializing, making new friends, and sharing new experiences, while giving caregivers needed breaks,” said Julie Hurley, Program Director. “Doing art projects enables program participants the opportunity to express with color, fabrics, textures, and paint and allows their communication skills to be expressed in many different forms.”
This exhibit will remain at Tibbits through Wednesday, December 19.
