TIBBITS THEATRE WORKSHOPS FOR AREA YOUTH

Date:July 22, 2008

COLDWATER, MI—

Students in grades 4 – 12 are invited to have fun at the Tibbits Theatre Workshops Monday through Friday, August 11-15 and August 18 – 22, 2008, with a showcase performance open to the public at 7 pm on Friday, August 22.

The High School Workshop for grades 10 – 12 will be held mornings from 9 am to noon. The Elementary School Workshop for grades 4 – 6 will be held afternoons from 1 pm to 3 pm and the Middle School Workshop for grades 7 – 9 will be held from 3 pm to 5 pm

The cost is $80 or $70 for Tibbits members and includes workshop materials, a T-shirt, and a ticket to a performance of Tibbits Summer Theatre show “The Bop She Bops.”

The High School Workshop, conducted by Gloria Logan, is designed to help students gain creative confidence, learn improvisational work and monologue preparation, and discover opportunities for creative personal growth with plenty of fun thrown in the mix. The focus will be on creating and delivering an audition-performance. These audition pieces will be shared in a showcase evening on Tibbits stage Friday, August 22.

The Elementary and Middle School Workshops, taught by Colleen Clement, are tailored to help students increase their confidence both on and off stage and add that extra zing to their performances. Participants will explore singing, acting, and choreography as they discover avenues for creative personal growth. A group musical theatre number will be developed and then performed at the showcase evening on August 22.

Gloria Logan has directed, designed and choreographed over one hundred productions during her thirty- year teaching career. She has been a Tibbits Opera House favorite for many years playing roles from Bessie in “Marvin’s Room” to Tessie Tura in “Gypsy.” This summer Gloria was seen on the Tibbits stage reprising her role as Grace in “Grace and Glorie.”

Colleen Clement, in addition to teaching her stage presence classes and private voice lessons, is pursuing a Masters in Theatre and Drama for the Young from Eastern Michigan University. She has been involved in theatre since she was a little girl growing up in Marshall, Michigan, with musical productions and comedies as her favorites. Today she is committed to helping young people realize their inner beauty and strength.

Limited scholarships are available for the workshops. Registration forms for the workshops and the scholarships can be found at www.tibbits.org. They can also be picked up at Tibbits administrative offices, 93 W. Chicago St. For further information call 517-278-6029
