Little WomenMusic by Jason Howland Lyrics by Mindi Dickinson Book by Allan Knee
About the ShowSix generations have read the story. This one will sing it! The four beloved March sisters - Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy - are drawn from childhood story-land into a timeless, exhilarating musical, guaranteed to lift the spirit and fill family members of all ages with laughter and tears. Notes from Artistic Director Charles BurrA surprise of the 2005 Broadway theatre scene was the production of "Little Women". This beloved tale holds a place in many a heart, whether you envision Jo from the page, or as Katherine Hepburn, June Allyson, Winona Rider or, now, Sutton Foster. All the delightful elements of the story are here: Jo’s learning to write, the letters from the family’s Father off fighting the Civil War, the attractive stranger next door, and the maturing of the four young girls. Louisa May Alcott's beloved story is one of the most-read novels ever written. Her famed heroine is Jo, the budding writer in Civil War New England who pines for adventure, independence, and her own career. With Father off to war, it's up to Jo, practical older sister Meg, frail sister Beth, and vain sister Amy to help Marmee to keep the home fires warm while dealing with the rigors of adolescence. Watch as an amazing creative team bring to a fresh, new musical version of this classic novel.
I saw the First National Tour in Detroit. Instantly I knew this was the perfect show for the Tibbits. There were some great songs, and it was in no way a “Children’s Show.” Kids loved it, but there was much more there for the adults. This is the production that I hope families come to see together: three generations strong. The advertising campaign for the National Tour got it right. “Six generations have read the story. This one will sing it!”
And to the best of my knowledge, we are the first Professional Theatre in Michigan to do it!!
